California Rain
This was a tough one. I don't know if I can pull off the kind of bluesy vocals I have in my head for this....hmmmm. Regardless, the song was inspired by the ever-increasing number of vacated homes in my community, lives ruined by greedy mortgage brokers and a system designed to screw the little guy.
I will eventually re-record this. I know I can do better. It needs a bass and some backup vocals.
EDIT: Since recording this, a neighbor of mine actually committed suicide as the bank prepared to foreclose.
Lyrics:
Some guy once sang
“it never rains in California”
Well I beg to differ
It’s rainin’ right now
The foreclosure signs
Up and down the block
Are wet and depressing
Cuz its, raining in California
=chorus=
What will we all do?
The rain is comin’
For you
Neighbors disappear
Where could they all be going?
No one’s movin’ here
To California
=chorus=
Bailouts for the banks
CEO’s line their pockets
Can you really fight, the
Rain in California
=chorus=X2
No Wacky Weed
from FAWM 2009
OK... so the title is misleading. This is a beer drinking song of sorts. Short and sweet in honor of everything tall and frosty!
Seriously off-key, but then again, a drinking song probably should be right??
(Recorded with my new Firewire mixer and Condenser mic. )
Lyrics:
Well I don’t like that wacky weed
I never really cared for it.
I tried it as a teenager
Yeah a friend of mine had a lid
He took a pen and drew a face
on a piece of fruit
He claimed he couldn’t see it
And then I blew a fountain of puke
But drinkin beer is another story
It goes down so smooth
Bartender set another round
Aint got nothing to lose
chorus
A carbonated malty mug from heaven
Can’t get this at 7-11
Bartender set up another round
Aint got nothing to lose
spoken
Well I sat there long enough for that
Bar stool to leave a perfect imprint on my butt
I lost my Friends—they had come and gone,
But I had stayed drinkin my suds
The Bartender says “It’s closin’ time”, and I said
“How long have I been here?”
“I don’t know” he says “half the day and night”
Hell, you Might as well have another beer.
Yeah...
chorus X2
A carbonated malty mug from heaven
Can’t get this at 7-11
Bartender set up another round
Aint got nothing to lose

Botched
This is a dark song that was inspired by real events in the news last February in Florida. KatieSchu helped a bit with some chord suggestions, and is going to help me record this -- Thanks Katie!!

Lyrics:
A baby was born that day into a world that didn’t care
Her mother looked on with such despair
She worked so hard to take her very first breath of air
her mom looked on with such despair
The nurse stopped in to see how mom was doin…
Tears had filled the mothers eyes
The nurse just looked at her with reassurance
“Everythings gonna be alright”
Mom watched the nurse pick up that little baby
And throw her in the trash
And through that trash bag mom could still see her moving
The nightmare of that sight will be with her until her days
have come and passed...
Decisions that she’d made were crashing all around
Crashing All around her
If she had only known, would it change anything
Could it change anything?
A baby was born that day into a world that didn’t care
Her mother looked on with such despair
